About the journal

Aims and Scope

Image Analysis & Stereology is the official journal of the International Society for Stereology. It promotes the exchange of scientific, technical, organizational and other information on the quantitative analysis of data having a geometrical structure, including stereology, differential geometry, image analysis, image processing, mathematical morphology, stochastic geometry, statistics, pattern recognition, and related topics. The fields of application are not restricted and range from biomedicine, materials sciences and physics to geology and geography.

The journal publishes three types of papers. First, original research papers (full-length research papers and short communications) pertaining to various aspects of image analysis and stereology and related quantitative methods for geometric structures, texture and patterns, from instrumentation to computational and statistical methods, mathematics and stochastic geometry, both theoretical and applied. Second, review articles written in a form understandable to a non-specialist. Third, book reviews, news, communications and notes pertaining to the life and work of stereologists and their organizations. Prospective authors of the third type of publications should contact the Editorial Office before submission of a manuscript.
